PRIMARY SOURCE ANALYSIS

Provide the full bibliographic citation for your Primary Source

Compose a 1-2 page answer to the following questions:

  1. 1.      Briefly describe the source or sources.

–          I have found two websites dedicated to women involved in the workforce during World War II. Both of these sites contain first-hand, personal accounts of women workers. One site provides pictures and written stories and the other site is composed mainly of taped interviews with the women.

Rosie the Riveter. “Women working during World War II”. Aja Sorensen.  http://www.nps.gov/pwro/collection/website/credit.htm

  1. 2.      When was the source written?

–          There is no specific date or year listed.

  1. 3.      Who composed the source?

–          A graduate student named Aja Sorensen.

  1. 4.      Provide some information about the author.

–          Aja Sorensen was a graduate student at San Francisco State University and she started her work as an intern at the Rosie the Riveter/World War II National Home-front National Historic Park.Museum Studies Graduate

  1. 5.      Under what conditions was the source composed?

–          Aja was a graduate student at the time, and originally she composed the website because she was interested in the subject and it was her Creative Work Project for obtaining her Master’s Degree.

  1. 6.      How will you use the source for your paper?

–          This site provides a lot of useful information, such as first-hand accounts, written by women as to what life was like for them transitioning into the men’s roles while still maintaining their “womanly duties” by tending to household matters. These women actually experienced this culture shift first-hand, and it is because of them that I feel women have transitioned to what we are today.

  1. 7.      What are some of the problems that you foresee in using this source for your paper?

–          This website has a lot of good information on it, but not a lot of information on the creator of the actual site itself.
